About
Spencer Krywy is a Chicago based artist exploring ideas of soundscape, landscape, composition, and ecology. Spencer’s work examines the changing ecologies and features of the sounds and spaces that surround us, primarily through the mediums of kinetic sculpture and sound. By creating kinetic sculptural works and systems of sound creation, Spencer explores ideas of duration and composition. These works, whose behavior is influenced by the environments around them, use systems of digital, mechanical, and analog methods of input and output to continuously produce a unique soundscape. These systems are often inspired by or an attempt to replicate a natural sonic phenomena. Ranging from the use of sonar and computation to arrange and compose sound scapes, to the use of a windmill to drive a simple mechanism of sound production, these works represent a variety of experimentations in sound and kinetics.
